Indoor coffee consumption rising..

With the increase in coffee production in the Kathmandu country, domestic coffee consumption has also increased in comparison to foreign coffee in major cities.

According to the latest data, the total production of 466 metric tonnes of coffee throughout the country seems to be sufficient. It has increased by about seven percent compared to last year. Last year, 434 metric tonnes of coffee was produced.

After the demand for indigenous coffee within the country has increased, foreign coffee imports have decreased in Nepal and the exports of indigenous coffee, National Tea and executive director of coffee development board, Balakant Gautam said.

According to the data from the Trade and Exit Promotion Center, 99 metric tonnes of coffee worth Rs. 5 million four lakhs have been imported in the financial year 2073- 74 and Rs. 8.55 million rupees have been exported coffee.

Earlier, in the period 2072/73, coffee was imported to Rs. 555 million and coffee was exported to Rs. 101 million.

According to Executive Director Gautam, “According to statistics decreased by both the import and export of coffee in comparison to last year, the decrease in import and export while increasing production can be estimated that Nepal’s coffee market is increasing within Nepal.”

The board has celebrated the coffee coffee program in the country every year and has been celebrating National Coffee Day on December 2. Coffee production has increased while expanding coffee plantation area as a result of coffee expansion program conducted by the Board and District Agriculture Development Office in different districts. According to the board, this year, the coffee plantation area has reached 2,646 hectares by increase from 2,618 hectares last year. This year also, coffee coffee expansion program has shown that there will be a further increase in production in the next year.

Coffee practitioner Krishna Ghimire said that the expansion of coffee cafe house in the major city of the country has increased the popularity of Nepali coffee. Speaking to the increasing demand for the production, the businessman Ghimire said that he needed the effective program of encouragement from the concerned body.

This year, the board has planted about seven lakh quality coffee plants. This year Nepal has also received the membership of the International Coffee Organization of the World Coffee Organization. In the leadership of the International Trade Center Cooperation and Commerce Ministry, the Board has prepared a national expansion strategy for coffee and has prepared a five-year strategic plan for the development of coffee sector. Currently coffee coffee is produced in 42 districts of the country, while exporting coffee to Gulmi, Lalitpur and Sindupalchowk has been branded and exported abroad. From Perbelenuez
